Fort de Lippe - A masterpiece of history
After France and Spain attacked Portugal in 1761, the leading minister, the great reformer margrave of Pombal, entrusted William the supreme command of the allied British and Portuguese troops. In 1762 William ward off the invasion of Spanish troops and saved Portugal´s independence. In Portugal this incident is still known as the so called "Fantastic War“ (Guerra Fantastica). He established a war and artillery school and reformed the Portuguese army. Furthermore he gave the order to built the Fort Nossa Senhora da Graça in vein of Vauban near Elvas, which the king named "Fort de Lippe“ to honour his duties.
Fort de Lippe is the namesake of our noble and timeless watch collection.
